Course Description:
A study of the structure and function of the human body. This course is the first course of a two-semester sequence. The study begins at the molecular and cellular level and proceeds through the integumentary system, skeletal system, muscular system, the central, and peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. This course will help students refine their critical thinking skills as they evaluate various topics and concepts while searching for underlying connections between the concepts, which is a skill that should be beneficial in any/all types of careers. This course will also help students gain scientific literacy which will be of vital significance when making important life decisions. At least one year of high school biology or chemistry or the equivalent is recommended. Three hours lecture, two hours lab.A study of the structure and function of the human body. Objective 1: Explain the general structure and function of a cell and relate this to the functioning of the human body.

Objective 1: List and describe the structure and function of the integumentary system.
Objective 2: List and describe the structure and function of the skeletal system.

Unit 5: Life-span changes
Objective 1: Describe the life-span changes that affect cells, the integumentary system, the skeletal system, the muscular system, and the nervous system.
