DEA 321 - Dental Radiography II 2 Credits Total Lab Hours: 72 Course Description: This course reinforces the application of the physics of radiation and radiation biology as they are related to the quality in exposing, acquiring an image, mounting dental x-rays with an emphasis on the principles of ALARA and the safety of the patient and operator. The student will be utilizing simulation DXTRS and real patient experiences applying the principles, techniques and evaluation of intra and extraoral radiographs/images.
Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
- The student will satisfactorily demonstrate correct exposure techniques DXTTR.
- The student will satisfactorily demonstrate correct processing/scanning of dental radiographs.
- The student will satisfactorily demonstrate critica l evaluation of radiographs.
- The student will demonstrate on DXTTR the proper usage of a variety of film sizes, film holders and alternative techniques for successful radiographic images.
- The student will correctly mount a full mouth series of radiographs within 3 minutes.
- The student will satisfactorily utilize proper procedures and protocol; expose process and mount a full series of radiographs as a practical final exam.
- The student will perform laboratory experiences to develop competence in exposing, processing, mounting, and critically evaluating dental radiographs.
