DEA 584 - Dental Assisting Experience

Course Description:
This course provides the dental assistant students with a supervised practicum in a dental office setting, performing the chairside assisting functions utilizing psychomotor and affective competencies relevant to the profession. Students will gain additional hands-on experiences perfecting competence in chairside functions in different general and specialties dental offices. A minimum of 300 hours must be obtained. This course will also help students gain critical thinking skills which are essential to making important life, health, and career decisions.

Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
  1. Incorporate cognitive knowledge in the performance of psychomotor and affective domains.
  2. Obtain a minimum of 300 hours of practicum experience.
  3. Demonstrate entry level competency in all tasks completed on the Practicum Evaluation of Student.
