AGV 160 - Anesthesia/Surgical Assistance Course Department: Science 4 Credits Total Lecture Hours: 30 Total Lab Hours: 60 Total Clinical Hours: 0 Course Description: This course introduces the student to the common surgical and dental procedures performed in the veterinary clinic. Emphasis is placed on sanitation, patient observation, surgical preparation, assisting in anesthesia, and post-operative patient management.

Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
- Manage and maintain patients in all phases of anesthesia.
- Select, utilize, and maintain anesthetic delivery and monitoring instruments and equipment.
- Demonstrate knoweldge of routine surgical procedures and related equipment.
- Integrate aspects of patient management for common surgical procedures in a variety of animal species.
- Identify patients and surgical procedures.
- Position patients for common procedures.
- Coordinate pain management with anestehesia/surgical team.
- Recognize and provide appropriate instruments, supplies, and environment to maintain asepsis during surgical procedures.
