AGV 148 - Small Animal Care Course Department: Science 3 Credits Total Lecture Hours: 30 Total Lab Hours: 30 Total Clinical Hours: 0 Course Description: Small Animal Care provides students with a background in small animal breeds and breed identification, small animal diseases, obstetrics, vaccination protocol, and disease prevention. Laboratory topics include small animal restraint, nursing procedures, anesthesiology, and surgical assisting. Experience is provided on live animals in both lab and field setting.

Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
- Handle common laboratory and small animals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of restraints for non-human primates.
- Provide safe and effective care for birds, reptiles, amphibians, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, and ferrets.
- Recognize unique husbandry of small animals.
- Perform methods of injections and dosing.
- Perform physical exams.
- Recognize abnormal behaviors.
