NET 239 - Intermediate Networking Course Department: Business 3 Credits Total Lecture Hours: 30 Total Lab Hours: 30 Total Clinical Hours: 0 Course Description: This class will build on your knowledge and skills in network design, implementation, security, and troubleshooting. You will explore advanced topics in network architectures, cabling, topologies, protocols, routing, security, and troubleshooting. You will also practice with real-world scenarios and challenges using online lab simulations and practice exams. This class will prepare you for the CompTIA Network+ exam, a globally recognized credential that validates your networking knowledge and skills. This class will also enhance your critical thinking skills as you analyze different technology topics and concepts and find their connections and applications in a lab setting. This skill will help you in any technology career you pursue. Additionally, this class will improve your hands-on technology literacy which will enable you to make informed and effective decisions in your work.

Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
- Learn the fundamentals of networking, from basic concepts and components to advanced protocols and techniques.
- Differentiate between peer-to-peer and client-server networks and use various applications and protocols on a network.
- Describe and troubleshoot various networking hardware devices and physical topologies, as well as the seven layers of the OSI model.
- Work with MAC addresses, configure TCP/IP settings, identify network ports, describe domain names and name resolution, and use command-line tools.
- Describe the functions and formats of core TCP/IP protocols, secure network connections using encryption protocols, configure remote access connections between devices, and employ various TCP/IP utilities for network discovery and troubleshooting.
- Explain basic data transmission concepts, describe and compare different networking media and their standards, select and use appropriate tools to troubleshoot common cable problems.
- Describe characteristics of wireless transmissions, explain 802.11 standards and innovations, plan, secure, and troubleshoot a Wi-Fi network.
