Course Description:
This is an introductory course emphasizing multi-dimensional design as a fundamental framework to working with graphic media and design concepts. Students directly apply traditional design concepts to resolving graphic design problems. While using type, line art, photography, and emerging technologies, students develop mechanical and aesthetic skills while documenting and reflecting on their creative process.

  • Contribute to team problem solving skills
  • Develop understanding and skill in handling graphic design processes for the purpose of creating visual presentations (i.e. thumbnails to camera-ready development for graphic ideas and related production)
  • Demonstrate skills in craftsmanship and organization when presenting visuals for exercises and class projects
  • Demonstrate basic competency in operating computer graphic software, which includes industry standard software
  • Develop a basic core of rendering skills commonly associated with developing graphic ideas graphic ideas and designs
  • Develop creative thinking and communication skills through participation in critiques
  • Utilize both typographic and visual design elements in the construction of projects
  • Create a professional portfolio and/or final exhibition that demonstrates the application of elements and principles of design

  • Graphic Design Processes - Demonstrate proficiency in handling the complete design workflow, from concept thumbnails to final camera-ready artwork.
  • Project Planning & Visual Communication Skills - Strengthen the ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute design projects by effectively translating ideas into refined visual solutions.
  • Team Problem-Solving - Engage collaboratively to develop solutions in design challenges and creative projects.
