WEL 322 - Intro to Welding Blueprint Reading 2 Credits Total Lecture Hours: 30 Course Description: This course is one of a two-semester sequence. This course will prepare the student with the basic understanding of blueprint knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level welding position. Where students will become capable of understanding and communicating symbol representations that are used in the welding trades. Students in this course will gain literacy in print terminology which is a skill that is beneficial in many technical careers in the welding industry. The course will also help students refine their critical thinking skills through in-class labs that provide hands-on activities that help explain the lecture material. This course will also help students make life decisions by understanding technical drawings.
Student Learning Outcomes and Objectives: 1. Read and interpret machine and welding drawings.
2. The ability to identify different types of line types associat ed with the welding industry.
3. Select dimensions and amount of information required to produce a product acceptable to industry standards.
4. The ability to determine the steps necessary to build a product associated with the weldi ng industry.
5. Design a working sketch using symbolic information and projection techniques to convey information.
