TV and Radio Production, AAS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

Iowa Central’s TV and Radio Production Program offers an intense and practical blend of classroom studies and hands-on experience for a career in the new and ever-changing broadcast industry. This program is designed to give the students a full overview of the broadcast industry and the new, digital components that make them a more desirable employee in the future. Here at Iowa Central, students work at a college-owned, student-run radio station, as well as produce content for Iowa Central Sports and other community organizations, gaining valuable experience before entering the work force. During their time at Iowa Central, students can also take advantage of part-time opportunities at one of eight professional radio stations in Fort Dodge and the surrounding area. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree.

Students of the program also operate KICB 88.1 FM, a fully licensed, 240-watt radio station, broadcasting seven days a week from the Iowa Central campus. KICB is the only program student-staffed, student-managed community college radio station in the state. The station has been on the air since 1971. KICB operates under the supervision of the departments teaching staff, all of whom have years of professional experience in the industry.

It is the goal of the Iowa Central Community College TV and Radio Production Program to train, graduate, and promote the highest quality broadcasters in the area.
