This comprehensive pharmacy technician program combines lecture-based instruction, hands-on practice, and online learning modules to provide a well-rounded education. Students will cover essential topics such as prescription processing, medication dispensing, drug interactions, patient care, and both nonsterile and sterile product compounding. The curriculum also includes pharmacy calculations, infection control, over-the-counter medications, and emergency preparedness. Emphasis is placed on understanding pharmacology, medical terminology, and anatomy, while developing communication, teamwork, and professional skills. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical application, students will be equipped to excel in various pharmacy settings, ensuring safe and effective medication management.
Course Comments: Students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrollment. Licensing for Certifed Pharmacy Technicians (CPht) is governed by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing. A background check is required as part of their application process. This class prepares students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam (the cost of the exam is not covered in the tuition for this class). This class qualifies for GAP tuition assistance.
