The Enhanced Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) program is a comprehensive training pathway designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in healthcare and human services. This enhanced program goes beyond traditional nurse aide training by combining essential clinical instruction with industry-recognized certifications that expand student skillsets and employability. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and practical competencies needed to provide high-quality care and confidently enter the healthcare field.

At the core of the program is the Certified Nurse Aide course, which provides foundational knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective resident care. Learning takes place both in the classroom and through hands-on experience in a clinical setting within a long-term care facility. This course meets the requirements of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) for aides working in nursing and skilled nursing facilities. In addition to core nursing assistant skills, the course includes training in Mandatory Reporter requirements, Bloodborne Pathogens, and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) to ensure students understand their legal responsibilities, infection control practices, and patient privacy regulations.

To expand career opportunities, students also complete the Direct Support Professional-Developmental Disabilities (DSP) certificate program. This online training enhances understanding of human services and supports individuals who are new to or currently working in caregiving roles. It provides a standardized foundation of knowledge and skills to help students effectively support individuals with developmental disabilities.

Students will also complete Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers, gaining critical lifesaving skills such as high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and team-based emergency response techniques. This training follows current American Heart Association guidelines and prepares students to act confidently in emergency situations.

In addition, students will complete Medication Manager training, which prepares them to safely administer or supervise the self-administration of non-parenteral medications. This training is applicable in settings such as 15-bed or less childcare facilities, supervised apartment living, residential care facilities, and community-based living environments. This credential enhances student qualifications and supports expanded responsibilities in a variety of care settings.

Together, these components create a well-rounded training experience that not only prepares students for CNA certification but also broadens their qualifications across multiple healthcare and human service roles. Graduates of the Enhanced CNA program are confident, competent, and ready to meet the growing demand for skilled, compassionate caregivers.
