ART 151 - Design I 3 credits This course provides a foundation in visual design elements and principles, including line, shape, color, pattern, space, unity, and balance. Using non-digital art media such as cut paper, color pencil, ink, and collage, students will successfully organize design elements and principles to visually communicate ideas. Studio projects are presented as visual problems that require application of design elements and visual critical thinking. The impact of design in a variety of fields will be explored, as well as the relationship between design and culture. Via self- and class critiques, students will evaluate their own work and that of their peers. Required participation in the college art show introduces students to proper presentation and framing methods. No prior artistic experience required.
