To become a teacher, a student must graduate from an accredited teacher training institution. Students can attend Iowa Central for their first two years and then transfer to a public or private college for the remaining two years. After completing the necessary coursework, students at Iowa Central can receive an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Secondary Education. Iowa Central’s education curriculum combines a strong arts and science core with professional courses in education. This curriculum provides general education coursework, specific skills training, and direct experience working with children and young people in a school setting. The student who completes an Associate of Arts degree at Iowa Central with a concentration in Secondary Education will be prepared to function in a variety of supportive roles as part of an educational team.

Our education students have gone to a wide variety of senior colleges and universities. Iowa Central students are prepared to do well and have become award-winning educators.
