HSV 255 - Addictive Disease Concepts 3 credits This course will review the history of additions and society issues. Students will examine the theoretical foundations and current concepts of the addition process. The course includes the study of the physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of additions, abuse, and dependence. The classifications of basic pharmacology and psychoactive drugs plus the physiology impacts will be explored. Best-practice treatment modalities will be discussed. Students will gain knowledge of addiction and the disease that will be useful both at the personal and professional level.
